During this week we…

  • Learned about different types of rocks (sedimentary and metamorphic)

  • Learned about the layers of Earth

  • Learned a lot about volcanoes. Why and how they erupt. We learned that not all volcanoes erupt the same way.

  • Learned about parts of a volcano, igneous rocks, magma, lava, active and dormant volcanoes.

  • Went on a virtual fieldtrip to Italy to see the volcano Stromboli

  • Went to Hawaii to visit the Volcanoes National Park

  • Had fun with an experiment ("volcano eruption" using a lemon, vinegar, baking soda and food coloring).

  • Had opportunities to explore different rocks

  • Conducted observations  (independent activity) to monitor the growth/progress of plants

  • A friend went on vacation to Puerto Rico and we took the opportunity to learn about islands (land surrounded by water). We discussed different modes of transportation and ways to get to the island. I love when they engage in conversation. You never know what they will say!

  • Had opportunities to practice previously learned concepts

  • Music and Movement games

  • Listened to stories

  • Engaged in a tasting experiment (sweet, salty, bitter and sour). We had so much fun! 1 favorite/salty and 6 favorite/ sweet  :O)

We have a new friend and our students are thrilled! They were all very welcoming and so sweet to her! They were very helpful and attentive. Of course everyone needed extra-extra-extra hugs because new students require a little extra support. Sometimes it’s a little hard to share teacher-time and attention with others. I have to make sure they all feel loved. We don’t’ want anyone feeling as if they are “missing out". I will never say NO to hugs :o)

Enjoy your weekend!
