We have very capable, kind and respectful students. They are able to follow the routine, procedures and class rules. We have been working together in order to create a peaceful environment.
We have covered all class procedures steps by step in order to help our students become independent learners and feel successful (while staying safe).
The lessons were presented as a whole group but most of our students are starting to make independent activity choices.
We have been practicing our grace and courtesy.
We have also been inviting friends to play and practicing taking turns.

Our returning students had opportunities to get reacquainted with our classroom rules and procedures. They had opportunities to play with their new friends and help them in class by during lessons presentations, demonstrations and role playing. They are wonderful class leaders and role models for their new friends!
Next week we will conduct an informal assessment to help determine which skills we will be working on. The information will help me plan activities for each student based on their individual needs and development.

A note for parents of students dealing with separation anxiety:
Please keep in mind that your child is going through a period of adaptation. It takes time to get used to new environments, developing trust and feelings of security with new teachers.
Even if your child attended daycare before, our learning environment, and class pace is completely different.
Our expectations, procedures and rules are different from what they are used to.
The materials and procedures are completely different.
It will take time!
Please don’t get discouraged if your child doesn’t want to go to school or cry during arrival time. Those are typical behaviors. Continue to encourage your child every day. Show your child a positive attitude. Please don’t prolong the good byes (it never helps). A quick hug/kiss then leave promptly.
We will comfort your child and give hugs as needed. We will always contact you if there are any issues or concerns. Breathe, trust the process! Your child is in good hands :o)
